About

Mark’s story begins in the 1960s somewhere in the vicinity of a submarine base, location undisclosed for national security reasons. He grew up in England’s Peak District, which is better known for its moorland, valleys and gorges than its submarine bases. After gaining a degree in Physics and Astronomy, he somehow found himself in the world of Archives, Records Management and Information Governance, which is about as far from particle accelerators and telescopes as you can get.

His career of looking after things that had been written down took him all over the world and he became something of an expert in records retention and the long-term preservation of electronic records. Having climbed the corporate ladder and fallen off the top, Mark picked himself up and decided that it was about time that he started to write things down for himself and became an author.

Mark’s writing cuts across many genres, which so far includes historical, comedy, science fiction, fantasy and literary fiction. He has been shortlisted for a number of literary competitions but has so far managed to avoid winning anything.

Having done aerobatics in a light aircraft above the Nottinghamshire countryside, driven an ex-Swedish armed forces Volvo Valp through the forests of Nynäshamn, ridden a camel in the desert outside Dubai and swum with sharks in Ellesmere Port (not all at the same time, and the sharks weren’t the bitey kind), Mark does not consider himself an adventurer, more someone to whom adventures happen.

He lives in the Dark Peak area of the High Peak with his wife, two spotted orchids, three cats and more fountain pens than he realistically needs.
